How to Apply to PEC

Academic Requirements

Applicants are required to hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in chemistry or in a related discipline. Documentation of degrees must be available in English or German. The handling of foreign degrees is at the discretion of the individual universities potentially awarding the PhD degree later. Foreign applicants must be able to document that they are eligible for PhD studies in their home country. Furthermore, documentation of English skills at the minimum of the B2 level (e.g. German High school degree with 5 years of English instruction, IELTS > 6.5, TOEFL iBT > 90) or equivalent must be provided.
The Ph.D. work will include a research stay (3-12 months) at one of our academic partners with the option of obtaining a Dual Ph.D. degree and / or at one of our industrial partners (1-3 months).

All applicants will be considered for admission to PEC without attention to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran or disability status.

Timing

Applications are possible at all times, though positions may not always be open for new students. Applicants are welcome to contact potential thesis supervisors directly.

Application Process

Applicants are asked to contact the coordination office at IDK-PEC@uni-regensburg.de to initiate the application process by providing an electronic cover letter indicating the preferred project/supervisor, CV, transcripts, diplomas, and other relevant documents as well as details of two academic referees providing letters of recommendation directly to the coordination office.

Once this contact has been established, after the initial screening of the eligibility and qualifications of the candidates, a personal interview via Zoom with the recruiting committee will be conducted. If successful, the candidate will be offered a salaried position in the selected working group, usually for three years.
